Well, the votes are in and obviously the results are not exactly what we all hoped for.
Nonetheless, the experience and knowledge gained from this campaign has been substantial. It was a fascinating journey that I will never regret taking.
Please accept my sincere thanks for your enormous support, encouragement and friendship that carried me through the difficult days of the campaign.
To all who attended last night's election gathering, thanks for coming. It was comforting to have so many friends watching the results together.
I don't know what's next. Well, actually I do -- a brief vacation in Minnnesota to cool down and talk about something other than politics.
Then I'll keep working on the issues and problems that have occupied much of my time over the last three decades.
I am sure that our paths will continue to cross as we tackle the challenges ahead.
Finally I owe a deep debt of gratitude. Thanks to those special people who made a difference in the campaign -- Paul, Bryan, Bethany, John and especially Vicki who gave up so much to see me through this adventure.
